Tinubu seeks Senate confirmation of Joash Amupitan as INEC chairman

President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate, seeking the screening and confirmation of Joash Amupitan as the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The request was contained in a letter read on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.

Senator Akpabio said the request was made in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

The Senate president forwarded the request to the committee of the whole for consideration.

In a separate letter, President Tinubu also sought the Senate’s confirmation of Mrs Ayo Omidiran as the executive chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) and 28 others as federal commissioners, including Ibrahim Abdullahi from Kwara State.

According to the Nigeria Television Authority, the request has been referred to the committee of the whole for legislative action.
