President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to investigate the killing of a Kano housewife Fatima Abubakar and her six children.

The directive followed an attack on Saturday at Dorayi Chiranci Quarters in Kano State, where armed assailants broke into the victims’ home and inflicted fatal injuries.

The victims, including 35-year-old Fatima, were confirmed dead at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

In a statement on Monday, the President’s special adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said President Tinubu condemned the attack and extended condolences to the family.

The statement added that the President commended the police for swiftly arresting suspects and ordered a thorough investigation and prosecution.

“The President condemned the action as barbaric and condoled with the bereaved family over the tragedy,” the statement said.

“He commended the police for the swift arrest of the principal suspects and ordered the investigation and diligent prosecution of the suspects.”

The Kano State Police Command confirmed receiving a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on January 17, reporting the assault on the household of Haruna Bashir.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, immediately dispatched officers led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, three principal suspects were arrested between the night of January 17 and the early hours of January 18 through intelligence-led operations.

The arrests were carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and supervised by the Kano State Commissioner of Police.

“The Kano State Police Command, leveraging intelligence-led policing, has successfully arrested three principal suspects behind the murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters,” Kiyawa said.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the killings and ensure all those involved are brought to justice.

Tinubu assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and warned that violent acts would not be tolerated.
