President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist Dr. Leon Usigbe, who, until his death, was the State House correspondent for The Tribune newspapers.

In a statement issued on Saturday, his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president described Usigbe as a respected journalist known for his professionalism, balanced reporting and unwavering commitment to ethical journalism.

“Dr. Usigbe was a veteran correspondent and professional whose dedication to truth, balance, and ethical journalism earned him the respect of colleagues, public officials, and readers nationwide,” Tinubu said.

He praised Usigbe’s insightful coverage of presidential affairs and governance issues, noting that his calm demeanour and integrity contributed significantly to deepening democratic governance and keeping Nigerians well-informed about activities within the presidency.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues at The Tribune, and the entire State House Press Corps,” Tinubu said.

“May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn this great loss.”

Dr Usigbe, a long-serving journalist with a doctorate degree in Communication, was well regarded among his peers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Before joining The Tribune, he had worked at Champion newspapers and was a former chairman of the State House Press Corps.
