President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to elder statesman and former vice president of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo, on his 71st birthday.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Saturday, President Tinubu described the former vice president as “a man of integrity and loyalty” who has shown unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity and stability.

Former VP Sambo, a professional architect and seasoned politician, served as governor of Kaduna State from 2007 to 2010 before being appointed vice president under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He held the position from 2010 to 2015, playing a key role in the administration as a leading figure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tinubu praised Sambo’s dedication during his time in office and the cordial working relationship he maintained with former President Jonathan.

He further lauded Sambo for continuing to exhibit leadership and statesmanship even after leaving public office.

The president also acknowledged Sambo’s role in promoting peace and religious tolerance in Kaduna State, particularly his support for current governor Uba Sani’s administration.

Beyond Nigeria, Sambo has remained active in regional diplomacy.

He led the ECOWAS Observation Mission to Ghana during the December 2024 presidential election and previously headed similar missions to Niger Republic in December 2020 and again during the February 2021 run-off poll.

President Tinubu wished the former vice president many more years in good health and renewed strength to continue contributing to national and regional development.
