President Bola Tinubu has congratulated winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano State and Rivers State.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his special adviser on information and strategy Bayo Onanuga, the president urged the winners to serve with humility and dedication and to regard their mandate as a trust.

“The President urges the winners to serve with humility, patriotism, and dedication and to view the mandate given to them by the people as a sacred trust,” the statement said

The Independent National Electoral Commission conducted elections in the six area councils of the FCT.

It also held by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, and in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

President Tinubu congratulated the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, as well as its leadership in Kano and Rivers, on the outcomes of the polls.

He commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, stating that his achievements in the territory contributed to the party’s performance in the elections.

“He commends the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his remarkable achievements in the territory, which have yielded political dividends to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement added.

The president also lauded INEC, security agencies and voters for the conduct of the elections.

He commended the contestants for their participation.

“He further commends the courage and discipline displayed by all the contestants, stating that democracy is enriched with the vibrancy of participation and competition.”

Tinubu said the elections strengthen democratic institutions and called on INEC to continue improving the electoral process.

Minister Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and former governor of Rivers State, was appointed FCT minister by Tinubu.
