Tinubu brought Nigeria back from the brink – Seyi Law

Seyi Law

Comedian Seyi Law has said President Bola Tinubu brought Nigeria back from the brink of economic collapse.

He made the remark on Friday at the convention of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja, where he reaffirmed his support for the president.

Seyi said his position is based on his belief that the country’s economy has improved since Tinubu assumed office.

And he said, “And I said to myself, if I was to introduce Mr President, how would I do it? And I just said I will let people know that this is a man that I am willing to stake everything for because he is the man that brought Nigeria back from the brink of economic collapse when our national reserve stood at barely $1 billion. But today we celebrate our national reserve that is about $40 billion and our gross reserve that is at about $50.7 billion.”

The comedian had earlier endorsed Tinubu as his preferred candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu was sworn in on May 29, 2023, succeeding Muhammadu Buhari. His administration has introduced policies such as the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, which the government says are aimed at stabilising the economy.

Seyi’s comments come weeks after he faced criticism for saying the country is safer under the current administration than it was a decade ago. He later apologised, saying his choice of words was hurtful and describing the remark as a mistake.
