President Bola Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Uche Nnaji as minister of innovation, science and technology.
The resignation comes amid public allegations regarding the authenticity of his university credentials.
Mr Nnaji joined the federal cabinet in August 2023.
In his resignation letter on Tuesday, he expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve and claimed that political opponents have targeted him with blackmail.
Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him success in future endeavors.
The resignation coincides with ongoing legal proceedings in a case Nnaji filed against the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and other parties.
The suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/1909/2025, challenges the ownership and authenticity of his academic records.
On Monday, a hearing before Justice Hauwa Yilwa was stalled after the university and its officers failed to file their responses.
The court adjourned the matter until November 10.
In media statements, Nnaji’s legal team said the 4th respondent (UNN’s vice chancellor) had published a letter to Premium Times alleging Nnaji had not graduated. A claim they argued contradicted court mandates to preserve the status quo.
The university has recently disowned the degree certificate Nnaji submitted, stating its records do not confirm issuance of the document.
