Actress Tina Mba has shared words of wisdom with her colleagues who struggle to balance their careers and marriage, urging them not to abandon their professional dreams for the sake of a relationship.
Speaking in an episode of Lights, Camara – It’s My Turn, the mother of two hinted at her personal experiences, encouraging fellow actresses to follow her example by not letting marriage hinder their growth.
“He met you an actor, he married you an actor, there was no issue of you are going to leave this job because I am insecure or because we need to raise our children. No discussion or whatever,” she said.
“Then you got married thinking that now you are going to fly, and then the man comes and tells you, ‘No, you’re going to sit.’”
Tina stressed the importance of being observant and having honest conversations with potential partners about career support before marriage.
“See, the signs are always there. Don’t ignore it. Watch him, watch her. You need to have a discussion with the person. If need be, you need to sign an undertaking that you would not make me leave my career. Because did he leave his job?” she asked.
The actress also encouraged women to stay true to themselves, insisting that settling for a partner who does not support their ambition is unnecessary.
“Marriage is important but nobody put a gun to my head or to your head to do it. There are so many people in this world. If this didn’t work, another may work. You will meet a soulmate, someone who will be supportive. Just be true to yourself. Don’t go for the dazzles, be an antique babe like me,” she added.
Tina Mbah, known for her performances on screen and stage, is a single mother of two children, Tania and Joseph.
In December 2023, she accepted a surprise proposal from her partner, Gbenga, during a romantic event that recreated the location where they first became a couple. While the engagement made headlines, there is no public record yet confirming that the couple has tied the knot.
