TikToker who raised BRT concerns appointed co-host of movie premiere

BRT TikToker Ella

TikTok content creator known as Ella has announced that she has been appointed co-host of a movie premiere after gaining attention online for her videos about queues at Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations in Lagos.

Ella, who uses the handle @DarkskinnedElla on TikTok, shared the update with her followers in a video on the platform.

Her online presence grew after she posted videos showing the challenges commuters face while trying to board BRT buses.

In one of the videos, she filmed passengers waiting for buses at a terminal in Ikorodu and called on the state government to provide more buses.

The videos circulated on social media, prompting responses from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

LAMATA later advised content creators to respect the privacy of passengers and obtain consent before recording and sharing videos taken on public transport.

The agency also said the supervisor seen confronting the content creator in one of the videos was not its employee but worked for a private bus company.

After the videos gained attention online, Ella said more buses were later provided at the terminal she used.

She also said a tech entrepreneur Keniye Koroye helped set up a fundraiser to support her transport costs after she reported being threatened while filming.

Ella also shared a recorded call she said was from the Lagos commissioner for information Gbenga Omotoso who assured her that more buses would be provided.

In her recent video, the content creator said being appointed co-host of a movie premiere was unexpected.

“From rushing out on the queue to being the co-host of a movie premiere. If you told me that would happen to me, I would not even believe it,” she said.

Ella also thanked people who supported her online and said her videos were meant to draw attention to the experiences of commuters.

She added that she felt nervous about the role because it would be her first time hosting such an event.
