Socialite and nightlife entrepreneur Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has reacted to Davido’s loss at the 68th Grammy Awards, linking it to pressure on the singer to compromise his values.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at the ceremony held on Sunday in Los Angeles, United States. His song ‘With You’ featuring Omah Lay lost to South African singer Tyla’s ‘Push 2 Start’.
Reacting on his Instagram page on Monday, Cubana Chief Priest suggested that Davido was being targeted for refusing to engage in questionable practices within the global music industry.
“Oyibo dey do everything possible to break a strong man so he can do their demonic sh*t with them but he will never do it. Heads up brother, open the bag and drop another hot one for us. E no dey finish, gbedu na water.”
His comments sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans agreeing with his views while others criticised the claims, calling them unfounded.
Davido has received multiple Grammy nominations over the years but is yet to secure a win. He remains one of Africa’s successful music exports, with numerous international collaborations, sold-out concerts, and global chart entries. His fan base, commonly referred to as 30BG, continues to show strong support despite the award outcome.
The Grammy Awards introduced the Best African Music Performance category in 2024 to recognise African music on the global stage.
