There is no competition between me and Ibrahim Chatta – Kunle Afolayan

Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has dismissed suggestions of rivalry between his film village and that of fellow filmmaker Ibrahim Chatta.

He spoke on Wednesday at the watch party of Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens held at Igbojaye, Oyo State, with Ibrahim present at the event.

Addressing the audience, Afolayan said both of them were working towards preserving culture and heritage, not competing with each other.

He said, “we are both doing everything possible to uplift the glory of all, not just our ancestors, but the lineage and where we are from, from the root. There’s Afri Chatta in Oyo and you haven’t been there, you should go there. Many of the films you’ve seen were shot at Afri Chatta resorts and film studio. There is no competition! We are not even doing the same thing. And this is the first time he is going to come here. Even though I’ve invited him severally, but I’m guilty too”.

Afolayan is the founder of KAP Film Village and Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State. The facility serves as a film location, training centre and cultural tourism site and has hosted several major film and television productions, including Anikulapo.

Ibrahim runs Afri Chatta Resorts and Film Village in Oyo town. The location has been used for a number of Yoruba and indigenous themed film projects.

Both filmmakers are known for their contributions to Nigerian cinema, particularly their focus on indigenous stories, language and culture.
