Actress and media personality Osas Ighodaro has spoken about the pain of losing her mother, nearly five years after her death.

The 34-year-old was a guest on a new episode of Off The Top, a talk show hosted by VJ Adams, where she spoke candidly about how the pain of losing her mother still lingers despite the time that has passed.

“I haven’t cried in a while; it has almost been five years since my mum passed away and the pain never goes away,” she said.

“From time to time the emotion takes over and it can come unawares and that’s what I’m not really keen on. You could just get into the mood, and it’s a lot but I’ve learnt to allow it to take its course, brush it off and keep it moving.”

Osas, who has steadily built a reputation as one of Nollywood’s leading ladies, said she has learned to manage grief by allowing the emotions to come and go rather than trying to suppress them completely.

“One thing that has really helped me, and I usually say this when someone loses a parent, is that this situation is temporary. Live your life the best way you can so that when your time comes to transition, you have a lot to tell your family over there.

“So I’m trying to live my life so that when I meet my mum long from now, I’d have a lot to gist about,” she added.

Osas lost her mother, Patricia Ighodaro, in November 2020. At the time, she announced the news with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, calling her mum her “best friend” and “biggest supporter.”

Since then, the actress has continued to excel in her career, earning acclaim for her roles in films and TV series.

She won the Best Actress in a Drama award at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for her performance in Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story.
