Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has said that the only true love she has experienced is the one she shares with her son, Jamil Balogun.
Tiwa made the revelation during an interview with media personality Zeze Millz, where she reflected on her past relationships and the concept of love.
“I don’t think I’ve experienced true love apart from my son. Because every time I look back at all my relationships, I’m like, nah, that wasn’t love,” the 45-year-old said.
“I was just infatuated. At that time, I thought I was in love. I don’t think I experienced true love. I’ve never had that soulmate experience. I’ve tried over and over again,” she added.
Tiwa Savage was previously married to her former manager Tunji Balogun, popularly known as TeeBillz. The couple had their traditional wedding in Lagos in November 2013, followed by a white wedding in Dubai in April 2014.
Their marriage produced a son, Jamil, in July 2015. However, the union hit the rocks in 2016 after TeeBillz accused Tiwa of infidelity and her family of witchcraft.
In response, Tiwa addressed the issues in a tell-all interview, denying the allegations and revealing she had endured emotional abuse. The divorce was finalized in 2018.
Since then, Tiwa has focused on raising her son and building her music career, which has seen her collaborate with global stars like Brandy, Beyoncé and Sam Smith.
