Joseph Edgar, founder of Duke of Shomolu Productions, has commented on the ongoing controversy involving Afrobeat singers Seun Kuti and Wizkid.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Edgar shared his views on the public exchanges that have followed recent comments by Seun Kuti and reactions from Wizkid’s supporters.
He said, “The Kuti’s are envious of Wizkid, they attack people they feel is a threat to their father’s legacy because they don’t have the capacity to carry the mantle, they have been doing this for a long time, they physically attacked Dede in the past.”
The controversy began after comparisons were made between Wizkid and the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, with members of Wizkid’s fan base praising the singer’s global success. Seun Kuti publicly rejected the comparisons, describing them as disrespectful to his father’s legacy and history.
Seun has since maintained that Fela’s influence went beyond music, stressing his political activism and cultural impact. His comments sparked heated debates on social media, drawing responses from fans, entertainers and commentators within the Nigerian music industry.
Wizkid later reacted online, pushing back against the criticism and saying he is bigger than Fela.
