Singer Tems made history on Sunday as the first African artiste to perform at the FIFA Club World Cup final, thrilling fans with her hit single ‘Love Me JeJe.’

The Grammy winner delivered the performance during halftime at the final held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Chelsea was leading 3-0 against Club León of Mexico.

Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, took the stage alongside international stars including Doja Cat and J Balvin.

Coldplay and Emmanuel Kelly also performed as surprise acts. The show was co-produced by FIFA and Global Citizen, with Coldplay’s Chris Martin serving as the curator.

Dressed in a shimmering outfit that fused contemporary style with African elegance, Tems wowed over 80,000 fans in attendance, drawing cheers for her soulful vocals and calm stage presence.

Her performance of ‘Love Me JeJe,’ a reimagined version of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 hit, was a standout moment of the night. The song, which appears on her debut album Born in the Wild, earned her the Best African Music Performance award at the 2025 Grammy Awards, the first time the category was introduced.

Released on April 26, 2024, ‘Love Me JeJe’ was produced by GuiltyBeatz and Spax. The song became a global success, cementing Tems’ status as one of Africa’s biggest musical exports.

Tems’ debut album Born in the Wild has received critical acclaim and charted in countries including the UK, Netherlands, and Switzerland.

In addition to her Grammy win, the 29-year-old has earned multiple international awards including Billboard Women in Music, BET, and NAACP Image Awards.
