Teen saxophonist Temilayo Abodunrin has shared highlights from her performance and recognition at an event in Abuja hosted by the Indian Women Empowerment Association.
Taking to her Instagram page on Monday, the 16‑year‑old shared a video of herself performing to a live audience.
In her caption she wrote: “A weekend to remember at the Indian🇮🇳 High Commission, Abuja. It was a privilege to perform for the Indian Women Empowerment Association where I also received an award of Recognition and pulling off an Indian piece on the saxophone was mind blowing, seeing the audience’s reaction made every note worth it.”
She thanked several people and groups for their support in the post.
Temilayo had earlier shared pictures from the event with another message on Instagram. She wrote: “Honored, Humbled, and Heartfilled…. ❤️. Yesterday was a day I will carry in my heart forever. I am deeply honored to have received an award of Recognition from the Indian Women Empowerment Association, presented by the High Commissioner of India. To be celebrated in such a special way is a blessing I don’t take lightly. I give God all the glory for this moment.”
In the same post, she thanked the Indian Women Empowerment Association for the honour and said her “heart is overflowing with gratitude.”
She added that beyond the award, “the greatest gift was the opportunity to connect with the Indian community” and that she had made “wonderful new friends” and found the Indian people to be “some of the most beautiful, loving, and soulful individuals I have ever met. 🇮🇳❤️”.
Temilayo also gave individual thanks: “To Mr. Joshua @officialbossboss Thank you for your unwavering support and love every step of the way. I couldn’t have done this without you.” She thanked the Indian Embassy and community for their welcome and said they “made me feel right at home.” She also expressed appreciation to the IWEA team for “the incredible work you do.”
“This is more than just an award; it’s a bridge built on love and empowerment. Cheers to new beginnings and beautiful friendships! 🥂 Happy International Women’s Day,” she wrote.
Temilayo Abodunrin is a Nigerian saxophonist who began playing the instrument at age six. She is known for her cover versions of popular songs such as ‘Duduke’ and ‘Jowo’ and has performed at concerts and events in Nigeria and abroad since childhood.
