Tajudeen Abass loses elder brother months after mother-in-law’s death

Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abass has lost his elder brother, the Wamban Dawakin Zazzau, Aminu Pate.

Mr Pate died on Wednesday night at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria, after a brief illness.

He was buried on Thursday afternoon in Zaria in line with Islamic rites, following funeral prayers at the Emir’s Palace.

The burial was attended by the Emir of Zazzau Ahmad Bamalli, former Kaduna State governor Mukhtar Yero, chairman of Zaria Local Government Jamil Muhammad, members of the Zazzau Emirate Council, district heads, titleholders, clerics and other sympathisers.

The Zazzau Emirate Council confirmed his death in a statement on Thursday.

“With profound sadness and total submission to the will of Allah SWT, Zazzau Emirate announces the passing of Wamban Dawakin Zazzau Alhaji Aminu Pate. He passed away at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Zaria, last night after a period of illness,” the council said.

The late Pate, a retired director with the Kaduna State Ministry of Local Government Affairs, served in various local governments across the state.

In a condolence message, speaker Abbas described him as a brother, father and community leader who dedicated his life to service.

He also extended condolences to his nephew and personal assistant, Yahaya Pate and other family members.

The speaker prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.

His death comes months after speaker Abbas lost one of his mothers-in-law, Hajiya Rahmatu, mother of his first wife, Hajiya Hussaina.

Hajiya Rahmatu died in May at the age of 85 and was buried at the Tukur-Tukur cemetery.

Aminu Pate is survived by three wives, 27 children and grandchildren.
