Burial arrangements have been announced for Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of the late Dowen College student Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, who died under controversial circumstances in 2021.
A funeral poster shared on Instagram on Sunday revealed that Oromoni who died on November 25, 2024, at the age of 57 would be buried in August.
According to the poster, a night of tribute will be held on Thursday, August 7, at the family compound located at No. 8 Edah Street, Kumagba Estate, Warri, Delta State.
The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, at Ogbe-Ijoh Town in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State. A reception will follow at the family compound.
The late evangelist is survived by her husband, children, brothers and sisters.
Her death came nearly three years after her son, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, died in a case that sparked national outrage.
The 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lagos, died on November 30, 2021, after sustaining injuries under unclear circumstances. His family alleged he was bullied and beaten by fellow students, a claim Dowen College denied, insisting he was injured during a football game.
The Lagos State government later cleared five students and five employees of the school of any culpability following investigations. However, in January 2023, a coroner’s inquest into the matter resumed in Lagos to determine the cause of death.
Mrs Oromoni had remained vocal in demanding justice for her son before her passing.
