Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has denied making a statement attributed to her following the team’s visit to President Bola Tinubu.
A post shared by a pro-government Instagram page, claimed the footballer spoke glowingly about the president after their meeting.
The post quoted Okoronkwo as saying, “I saw a completely different person. Caring, kind, with a great sense of humour. He is nothing like what they say. If you meet him, you’ll definitely fall in love with him. May the President succeed.”
However, the 28-year-old player quickly distanced herself from the statement, taking to her Instagram story to express shock and denial.
“Abeg when did I talk this one?” she wrote, adding a facepalm emoji to emphasise her disapproval.
The post, which included her photo alongside President Tinubu’s, sparked mixed reactions online, with many criticising the spread of misinformation.
Okoronkwo’s swift response underscores ongoing concerns about false attributions and the use of public figures for political narratives without their consent
