First Lady Remi Tinubu on Sunday cautioned Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for singing during her installation as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodu’a in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The incident occurred while Governor Adeleke was giving a speech at the event hosted by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
A video circulating online shows the governor singing worship songs during his remarks.
Mrs Tinubu walked toward the stage and warned him to stop singing or she would switch off the microphone.
She was seen mouthing the words, “I give you five minutes to conclude your speech, enough with the music, or I will switch off the microphone.”
The development has drawn reactions on social media, with users expressing concern over the exchange.
A user wrote, “What do you think will happen if he sings ‘on your mandate we shall stand’?”
Another user commented, “Unacceptable public conduct. There are better ways to communicate time limits than threatening to cut off a Governor’s mic.”
Mrs Tinubu’s visit to Ile-Ife was for her installation as Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodu’a, a title conferred by the Ooni of Ife as part of activities marking the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary.
The title is traditionally given to a woman expected to work with Yoruba leaders on cultural, community and social initiatives.
