Stop calling me bro or blood, 22-year-old Ondo monarch warns public against informal address

Ondo monarch Oba Oloyede Adekoya

The palace of the Arujale-Ojime of Okeluse Kingdom in Ondo State has directed the public to address the traditional ruler, Oba Oloyede Adekoya, strictly as His Royal Majesty.

In a statement on Friday, the monarch’s chief of staff, Prince Adefemi Olorunfemi, said informal terms such as “bro” or “blood” would no longer be tolerated.

He said any attempt to address the king casually would be met with action.

Prince Olorunfemi stated that the monarch’s age should not be used to justify informal address.

“His Royal Majesty is regarded as the youngest king in Yorubaland, but that does not permit any form of disrespect,” he said.

“Regardless of age, status, or social standing, respect for the king is non-negotiable. The throne he occupies is sacred.”

The palace urged residents of the Okeluse Kingdom and the public to conduct themselves in ways that uphold the dignity of the monarchy, stating that respect for the king is central to Yoruba tradition.

Oba Oloyede Adekoya ascended the throne at age 16 following the death of his father, the previous monarch.

As the only son among four children, tradition required that he succeed his father.

The kingmakers presented him as the new ruler, a decision later approved by the Ondo State Government.
