Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called for the investigation and prosecution of Senator Ned Nwoko over allegations made by his wife, actress Regina Daniels.
Reacting to Daniels’ statement on Instagram, where she said she was 17 when she married Nwoko and that he forced her to take drugs, Mr Sowore said on X on Sunday that at 17, Daniels was legally a minor under UK law, where Nwoko is a registered legal practitioner.
He added that any sexual activity following the marriage would amount to statutory rape.
“APC Senator Prince Ned Nwoko must be held accountable for crimes against a minor and abuse of power. According to @regina.daniels, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko married her when she was 17, a minor under UK law. Any sexual activity following that marriage would amount to statutory rape,” he wrote.
He also said Daniels’ claims that Nwoko introduced her to hard drugs while she was underage and repeatedly forced himself on her are criminal offences that require legal action.
“Regina Daniels alleges that Senator Nwoko introduced her to hard drugs while she was underage and repeatedly forced himself upon her. These are serious criminal offences that demand investigation and prosecution.”
Sowore also called on the Law Society of England and Wales and the Solicitors Regulation Authority to initiate disciplinary proceedings to determine Nwoko’s fitness to practise law in the UK.
He added, “We will not allow Ned Nwoko to use the Nigeria Police Force, political influence, or wealth to suppress victims, pervert justice, and trample on human rights. Impunity has an expiry date, and that date is now.”
