Sosoliso Airlines crash survivor Kechi Okwuchi has undergone another surgery, this time on her eyelid, bringing her total medical procedures to about 140 since the 2005 plane crash.
Okwuchi shared the update on her social media pages on Sunday, posting photos from her hospital bed three days after the operation.
According to her, the procedure was necessary because the skin around her eyelid had become tight, preventing her from closing her eyes or blinking properly, which began to affect her eyesight.
“My last surgery was in 2019 so it’s kinda weird to be back here after so long,” she wrote.
The America’s Got Talent 2017 finalist was one of only two survivors of the Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crash on December 10, 2005, which killed 106 people, including about 60 of her Loyola Jesuit College schoolmates.
Okwuchi sustained third-degree burns on more than 65 percent of her body and was initially given a 30 percent chance of survival.
She has since undergone a series of reconstructive surgeries in the United States.
In 2015, she graduated with first-class honours in economics from the University of Saint Thomas, Houston, Texas.
Kechi Okwuchi has also built a career as a motivational speaker and singer, using her platform to advocate for burn survivors and to honour the memory of her deceased classmates.
