A Lagos based law firm has issued a pre-action notice to music star Davido, demanding N1 billion in compensation over his conduct during a recent court session and related social media posts.
The notice, dated February 24, was sent by Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors to “David Adedeji Adeleke”, known professionally as Davido. The firm said it represents Ebelechukwu Enedah, a lawyer who acted for Sophia Momodu in ongoing custody proceedings involving Davido and Sophia.
In the letter signed by lawyers Decency Nkume and Nnamdi Oragwu, the firm alleged that its client was subjected to harassment and defamation during a court appearance on February 12. It claimed Davido behaved “in a manner unbecoming of a litigant” by being aggressive and verbally abusive towards Mrs Enedah.
The notice also referenced statements allegedly made by Davido on social media, including:
“I disgraced you in the courtroom… I was teaching you your work, you couldn’t even take it… You are a wicked human being, UR THE WORST LAWYER EVER! I BEAT YOU IN COURT!”
The firm described the statements as “deliberate and malicious acts of reputational destruction” which it said exposed Mrs Enedah to abusive messages and threatening calls.
Punuka Attorneys is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the statements, a public apology and N1,000,000,000 in damages for alleged harassment, defamation and emotional distress. It warned that if the demands are not met within seven days, it will commence legal action at the High Court of Lagos.
Davido and Sophia Momodu have been engaged in a custody dispute over their daughter Imade. The matter has drawn public attention in recent months.
As of the time of filing this report, Davido has not publicly responded to the pre action notice.
