Son of the Soil will launch on Netflix across Africa on March 1 following a successful international festival and cinema run.
The action thriller features Patience Ozokwo, Ireti Doyle and others. Its release on Netflix extends the film’s reach beyond cinemas and festivals to digital audiences across the continent.
Directed by Chee Keong Cheung, the film centres on Zion Ladejo, a former Nigerian Special Ops paratrooper who returns home after a personal tragedy and becomes entangled in a conflict with criminal networks. It blends drama with action set pieces.
Razaq Adoti leads the cast. He is known for roles in Black Hawk Down and Amistad. Other cast members include Taye Arimoro, Sunshine Rosman, Damilola Ogunsi, Philip Asaya, Emeka Golden and Sharon Rotimi. The film also introduces Best of Nollywood Child Actress Ijelu Folajimi.
Cheung previously directed the action film Redcon-1, which screened on Netflix. Through his company Action Xtreme, he is developing action focused film and television projects rooted in Africa for global platforms.
Action Xtreme has a first look collaboration with Nile Entertainment to develop new film and television projects for international distribution. The partnership brings together genre production expertise and market reach across Africa.
The film was developed and produced by Action Xtreme and Sovereign, in association with Lagos based Boxonia Blueprint. Producers are Andreas Roald, Razaq Adoti, Ioanna Karavela, Chee Keong Cheung and Wingonia Ikpi. Director of photography is Jack Thompson Roylance. Music is by Tolu Obanro.
Distributed by Nile Entertainment, the Lagos shot British-Nigerian co production follows a former special ops soldier seeking vengeance for his sister’s death. It premiered at the 34th Pan African Film Festival and will now be available to Netflix subscribers across Africa.
