Soludo, deputy sworn in for second term in Anambra

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo and his deputy Onyekachukwu Ibezim were sworn in for a second term on Tuesday in Anambra State.

The ceremony took place at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.

The oath of office and oath of allegiance were administered by the Chief Judge of the state Onochie Anyachebelu.

Governor Soludo took the oath with his deputy at about 11:05 a.m.

Among those present were Vice President Kashim Shettima, former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

Soludo, who is a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, was re-elected in the governorship election held on November 8, 2025.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the election.

He polled 422,664 votes to defeat Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes.

Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.

Sixteen candidates contested the election.

INEC said 598,229 voters were accredited out of 2,788,864 registered voters. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, while 11,244 were rejected across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Soludo won in all 21 local government areas.

Activities for the inauguration began on March 15 with an interdenominational service at the International Convention Centre.

The governor and his deputy attended the ceremony with their wives and members of their families.
