Sokoto governor denies donating car, shop to TikToker Rahama Saidu

Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has denied involvement in a car and shop donation made to Kaduna-based TikToker Rahama Saidu.

The statement, issued by the governor’s spokesperson Abubakar Bawa on Sunday, said the donation, which appeared in a viral social media video, was made by one Sanin Jaman in appreciation of Saidu’s support for the Ahmed Aliyu administration.

The government clarified that the donation had no connection to the state government.

“I want to make it categorically clear that the said donation has nothing to do with Governor Ahmed Aliyu. It was purely personal between the two of them – the giver and the beneficiary,” the governor said in a statement released by his office.

The governor warned against carrying out donations in his name or that of the government without consultation, saying such acts could mislead the public.

“There are proper and more impactful ways through which support can be provided to benefit residents of the state,” he added.

The statement highlighted the government’s nine-point SMART agenda, which focuses on tackling insecurity, moral upbringing, support for vulnerable groups, youth empowerment, environmental sanitation, education and healthcare delivery.

Governor Aliyu also said many displaced persons affected by banditry and vulnerable residents in Sokoto remain in need of assistance and encouraged individuals and corporate bodies to complement government efforts.

“We have many displaced persons, especially in areas affected by banditry and even within the metropolis, who are in dire need of assistance. Despite the various interventions already provided by the state government, there is still room for individuals and corporate bodies to support these efforts.”
