Shirley Igwe reinstated by AGN after suspension

Actress Shirley Igwe has been reinstated by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and can resume all filming and guild-related activities from October 19.

In a statement, AGN National President Emeka Rollas said the National Executive Council (NEC) reviewed Igwe’s case and decided her reinstatement was in line with “the Guild’s constitutional provisions on fair hearing, justice and the rehabilitation of members.”

The NEC urged Igwe “to maintain emotional composure, exercise restraint, and uphold professional ethics in all engagements, especially in situations that may lead to tension or disagreements.” They also expect “renewed discipline and cooperation from Igwe as she returns to active participation within the creative community.”

“The Guild looks forward to her positive contributions to the growth and integrity of the organisation,” the statement added.

Igwe’s suspension followed an incident on July 19, on a Lagos movie set, where she was accused of violent conduct toward a crew member. AGN described the act as “professional misconduct, violence, and indisciplined actions capable of discrediting the acting profession,” temporarily barring her from productions involving her.

Known for roles in Mercy the Bus Driver, Stormy Hearts, and Blackout, Shirley Igwe now has the chance to make a strong comeback, reinforcing AGN’s commitment to “fair hearing, justice, and rehabilitation” as she returns to the industry.
