Shiites, soldiers clash in Abuja

Shiites protest for Zakzaky

Soldiers clashed on Tuesday with some members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) popularly called Shiites in Abuja.

The religious group was marching to the FCT metropolis from Mararaba in Nasarawa State when the soldiers stopped them.

Reports say soldiers assaulted some female Shiiite occupants of a vehicle headed for the city centre.

The women were reportedly put in a van and whisked away to an unknown destination.

The group has clashed severally with security operatives while seeking the release of its leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

In July, a Kaduna High Court discharged and acquitted El-Zakzaky after seven years in detention. The IMN leader was arrested after his members clashed with soldiers in Kaduna in 2015.
