Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in a hospital in London on Sunday.
Shettima is in the United Kingdom as head of a Federal Government delegation to bring back Mr Buhari’s body to Nigeria. He also met with the former president’s children.
The Office of the Vice President confirmed the meeting in a statement by media aide Stanley Nkwocha.
It also confirmed that Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura, has been admitted to a London hospital, where he is recuperating.
Photos from the visit show the vice president consoling the grieving family members.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, upon arrival in London, met with and condoled with the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in London.
“The Vice President also visited the late President’s nephew, Malam Mamman Daura, who is recuperating in a London hospital.
“The condolence visits were conducted while the vice president awaits the conclusion of procedures and documentation for the repatriation of former President Buhari’s body to Nigeria.
“Vice President Shettima is accompanied by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia,” the statement by Mr Nkwocha said.
Buhari will be buried on Tuesday in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, according to Islamic rites.
He is survived by a wife and eight children.
