Film director Mildred Okwo has revealed that she once tried on two separate occasions to cast Queen Nwokoye as a villain, but the actress turned her down each time.
The revelation came on Thursday after a fan suggested Okwo feature Queen in an antagonist role.
“Would love to see you feature Queen Nwokoye as a villain in one of your movies someday,” the fan wrote.
Responding with humour on X, Okwo said her efforts had already been in vain.
“Have tried to hire 2 times now, she say I no reach ,” she said.
Mildred Okwo, known for her strong storytelling and distinct directorial style, launched her filmmaking career in 2005 with 30 Days, a political thriller starring Genevieve Nnaji and Joke Silva.
The film, which blended suspense with political commentary, was released in the US and earned ten nominations at the 2008 Africa Movie Academy Awards, cementing Okwo’s arrival in the industry.
She followed this up with The Meeting in 2012 — a romantic comedy-drama co-produced with Rita Dominic.
The film tackled Nigeria’s bureaucratic landscape with wit and satire and featured standout performances from Femi Jacobs and Linda Ejiofor. It became one of Nollywood’s most celebrated box-office successes that year.
In 2016, Okwo shifted gears with Suru L’ere (Patience Pays), a comedy-drama centered on the struggles of a young Lagos professional.
The film, starring Seun Ajayi, Beverly Naya and Kemi Lala Akindoju, showcased her ability to blend humour with grounded urban storytelling.
Over the years, she has continued to build a body of work that reflects depth, range and a keen eye for character-driven narratives.
