Actor Shawn Faqua’s mother-in-law has spoken amid the ongoing controversy surrounding her daughter Sharon Maduekwe’s past marriage.
Recall that Shawn performed Sharon’s traditional wedding rites (Ịgba Nkwụ Nwanyị) in Lagos last week Friday. The couple later made history by hosting Nigeria’s first-ever wedding aboard a moving train on Sunday. The ceremony took place along the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway, with a train coach at the Mobolaji Johnson Station.
In a viral video, Sharon’s mother expressed her joy, saying it had always been her heart’s desire for her daughter to marry a God-fearing man.
“It has been my heart desire for Sharon to marry a God-fearing man because priesthood has been on her from the conception of time. And then the enemy wanted to join her with the wrong altar but grace saw her and brought her out,” she said.
Her statement comes amid renewed discussions about Sharon’s previous marriage.
A few days earlier, Sharon’s ex-husband opened up about their failed relationship, insisting he was not the first to seek a divorce.
“There was nothing godly about the foundation of that marriage,” he said. “It was a decision I should never have made, and I take full responsibility. It cost me my peace, my dignity, some friends and temporarily strained my relationship with my daughters. I ended the marriage so it would not end me.”
His remarks followed Sharon’s earlier testimony, where she said, “In 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. My ex-husband woke up one morning and declared he no longer wanted to be married. Despite no major issues, the shock was overwhelming. I held tightly to my faith to survive that heartbreak.”
Reflecting on her past in an interview, she added, “When you are fornicating, you really just think, ‘Omo, this is the life.’ Most of my major mistakes are from those years. Maybe if I was right with God, I wouldn’t have dated that person, I wouldn’t have married that person, and then I wouldn’t have made that mistake.”
The couple’s wedding has since drawn wide attention online for its creativity and strong spiritual undertone.
