Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has shared highlights from his first two years in office.
On Monday, Husseini posted a video on Instagram reflecting on his tenure from 2024 to 2026.
He wrote, “It has been an incredible two‑year journey being at the helm of affairs at the NFVCB and this video is a look back at some of my favorite moments from my start in 2024 to where I am today in 2026.”
He added, “I have spent this time turning vision into action not just as a regulator but as a partner in growth for our creative industry. I have, in the last 24 months, traveled, spoken on local and global panels and met with the brilliant minds shaping our future.”
Husseini said, “My mission has been simple: to make processes faster, protect our creators’ intellectual property and ensure that we balance creativity with regulation.” He highlighted achievements including faster film classification, shifting the board’s focus from “censorship” to “classification,” and curbing unauthorized streaming of unclassified content.
He also said, “Beyond the paperwork, I have been on the ground facilitating media literacy and capacity building, directly impacting the next generation of filmmakers.”
Under his leadership, the NFVCB secured a permanent headquarters after nearly three decades of operating without one. The board has also been engaging with the Nigerian Copyright Commission to strengthen efforts against digital piracy and unlicensed streaming.
Husseini said collaboration with industry stakeholders is central to his approach, adding, “The future of African storytelling is bright and I am honoured to help guide the way.”
