Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.

The traditional title was conferred on Sunday, by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, during a ceremony at the Alaafin’s Palace in Oyo Town.

The speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Adebo Ogundoyin, described the honour as well deserved, citing Mr Tinubu’s influence among youths and his philanthropic activities.

In a congratulatory message, Mr Ogundoyin said the installation went beyond ceremonial recognition, describing it as a call to service and leadership within Yorubaland.

“This is not just a traditional title; it is a call to service and a recognition of leadership potential,” the speaker said, adding that the honour reflects values cherished by the Yoruba people, including excellence, community service and legacy.

Ogundoyin also commended the Alaafin for sustaining Yoruba culture and strengthening traditional institutions through the conferment of titles on individuals he described as worthy ambassadors of the heritage.

He urged Tinubu to use his new status to promote unity, cultural pride, youth empowerment and sustainable development across Yorubaland.

Tinubu was born on October 13, 1985.

He earned a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2013.

Also to be conferred with the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland is Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, who represents Zamfara West Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation.

Dignitaries at the event included former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
