Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has publicly denied an allegation that he led thugs to disrupt the inauguration of the newly elected leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and attempted to assassinate its president Atiku Isah.
In a statement posted to his Instagram story on Tuesday, Seyi Tinubu wrote, “Enough is enough with these FAKE stories and defamation of my character,” dismissing the allegations circulating online.
The controversy erupted earlier on Tuesday after Isah, who was elected as NANS president during the association’s national convention on February 27, claimed that his life was under threat.
Isah alleged that Seyi Tinubu was at The Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro, Abuja, accompanied by thugs to disrupt the event and silence him.
“At The Wells Carlton, Seyi Tinubu and his thugs are around to scatter our inauguration,” Isah said during the call.
“Seyi has just ordered for me to be assassinated after the plea to buy me with money failed.”
He further claimed that Mr Tinubu ordered the hotel management to shut down operations, leaving guests locked in and unable to move freely.
“He has instructed the management to shut down everything… The inauguration was supposed to take place at 11 a.m. and the hall is already filled up. He is in front of my hotel room now to murder me with his security. My life is under threat,” Isah alleged.
A student leader who asked to remain anonymous described the situation as “deeply troubling and an attack on the democratic process within the student movement,” adding that the integrity of student leadership must be protected from “elite interference and violence.”
In the letter signed by Isah, the student body emphasised the importance of a peaceful and orderly transition.
“We wish to implore your office to avail us adequate security… as we are set for official inauguration into office,” it stated.
