Senator Seriake Dickson has visited Ijebu-Ode to pay his respects following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland.

Oba Adetona died on Sunday, July 13 after reigning for 65 years. He was one of Nigeria’s longest-serving and most respected traditional rulers.

Dickson is a descendant of the renowned Obu warrior family of Orua. The family traces its ancestry to the Oba Fidipote royal family of Ijebuland, Ogun State, Nigeria.

The former governor of Bayelsa State, who is a prince of the Fidipote family, expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s death. The senator, who represents Bayelsa West, described the Oba Adetona as an iconic leader whose legacy will be remembered for generations.

He was accompanied on the visit by High Chief Bimbo Okenla, the Kakanfo Awujale of Ijebuland. The delegation met with key figures in the royal establishment, including Oba Tajudeen Kolawole Omotayo, head of the Fidipote Ruling House, and fuji musician K1 de Ultimate, who serves as the Olori Omo Oba Akile Ijebu.

“I thanked them for the solidarity and support they showed Kabiyesi during his reign, and also for the dignity and unity they have displayed at his passing,” Dickson said.

He was briefed on the funeral rites and traditional activities planned by the Ijebu Traditional Council in honour of the late monarch.

Dickson also visited the family residence to condole with the Olori and other members of the royal family.

“As a Prince of the Fidipote Royal Family, it was important for me to be present and to share in this moment of mourning and remembrance. I hope to visit them again soon,” he added.

Dickson noted that Oba Adetona’s death marked the end of a historic era in Ijebuland and Nigeria’s traditional leadership.

“May his soul continue to rest in peace. Amen,” Seriake Dickson said.
