Head writer Jeffrey Musa has revealed that Wura is returning for its fourth season because many fans didn’t get closure from Season 3.
The new season will start showing on Africa Magic from March 30, and viewers can also follow it on the Showmax streaming service.
Musa, addressing journalists, explained that the Showmax original is an adaptation of the South African telenovela The River, which spans six seasons and over 1,500 episodes.
“Season 3 was announced as the finale, but we still had more material from the South African original to adapt,” he said.
He added that it became important to continue Wura, especially because many fans were unhappy about the show ending. “Viewers didn’t feel they had closure for Wura, Tumi, and other key storylines, and they felt that certain parts of the story could have been handled better. Continuing the series gives the creators a chance to address those gaps and fully explore the characters’ journeys,” Musa said.
According to the head writer, season four will dive deeper into the characters’ journeys while staying true to what fans love about the show. “The new season gives us a reset, a chance to fix things we didn’t have a chance to do in Season 3 and give our audience some catharsis. From my perspective, that is why we have Season 4,” he added.
While Scarlet Gomez opened up about her character’s transformation, explaining that her once untouchable character would now appear more vulnerable, as shifting power dynamics begin to challenge her dominance.
The singer and video vixen said, “I think in this season, they get to see her in ways that they haven’t seen before. Now she becomes more emotional, more vulnerable. They’ve never seen her in a dire situation or anything like this before. Right now, it feels like she’s about to lose everything, and the challenges are different. There’s also the health issue there.
“There are layers to her now; people might have to, they will be able to connect to her on a more emotional level now. She feels more human than before. Before, it felt like she was untouchable, but now it feels like she can also go through things that normal people go through. And she’s not as high and mighty as everybody thinks.”
Wura tells the story of Wura Amoo-Adeleke, a gold mining executive who balances a powerful business empire with family challenges in the fictional Iperindo community in Osun State.
The series stars Scarlet Gomez as Wura Amoo-Adeleke, Yomi Fash-Lanso as Anthony Adeleke, Ray Adeka as Jejeloye “Jeje” Amoo, Iremide Adeoye as Lolu Adeleke, Ego Iheanacho as Iyabo Kuti, Martha Ehinome as Tumininu “Tumi” Kuti, Lanre Adediwura as Olumide “Cobra” Kuti and Carol King as Grace Adeleke, among others.
The show premiered on Showmax in January 2023 and quickly became one of the platform’s most-watched Nigerian titles, reaching over 100 episodes in its first season alone and earning attention across West Africa. Fans can watch Wura on Showmax, where Seasons 1 to 3 are already available, and follow the unfolding drama each week when the new season begins.
