Sanwo-Olu hosts Lagos One-Day Governor Esther Etiyemonu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday received the Lagos State One-Day Governor Esther Etiyemonu on a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina.

Miss Etiyemonu was accompanied by her deputy Dorcas Awoyemi and Secretary to the State Government, Olaide Salami.

In a post on Instagram, Governor Sanwo-Olu said he received Etiyemonu, the overall winner of the 21st Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition and a student of Lagos State Senior Model College, Igbokuta.

“Today, I received Miss Etiyemonu Esther, the One Day Governor and overall winner of the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, a student of Lagos State Senior Model College Igbokuta, at Lagos House, Marina,” he said.

He congratulated her on her emergence as One-Day Governor and wished her well.

“Her confidence, focus, and hard work stand out. She represents the very best of our youth, and I am proud of her achievements.

“Esther, all of Lagos is rooting for you and your future. Congratulations once again.”

Etiyemonu won the 21st edition of the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition held in December 2025 at the Eko FM Multi-purpose Hall.

Her victory qualified her to serve as One-Day Governor, where she performs official state functions in that capacity.

She received N1 million as the star prize.

Dorcas Awoyemi of Ikosi Senior High School emerged second and received N750,000, while Olaide Salami of Angus Memorial Senior High School came third and received N500,000.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, who had earlier hosted Etiyemonu, said the One-Day Governor initiative was designed to expose students to governance, leadership and public service, and to encourage civic engagement.

Mr. Agoro urged her to see the role as preparation for future leadership responsibilities and congratulated her on winning the competition.

The spelling competition was initiated by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and the wife of the Lagos State governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
