Salihu Dembos returns as NTA DG as Tinubu sets aside Rotimi Pedro’s appointment

President Bola Tinubu has recalled Salihu Dembos as director-general of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), effectively setting aside the appointment of media entrepreneur Rotimi Pedro announced in August.

A statement on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said Dembos will return to complete his three-year tenure, which began in October 2023.

Tinubu also directed the recall of Ayo Adewuyi, executive director of news, to complete his tenure, which runs until 2027. Adewuyi was appointed in 2024.

The new directive reverses last month’s management shake-up at NTA in which Pedro, a Lagos-born broadcaster and media consultant with over 20 years’ experience in sports rights and television, was named DG.

The August announcement also saw Karimah Bello from Katsina State appointed executive director of marketing, Stella Din from Plateau State as executive director of news, and Sophia Mohammed from Adamawa State as managing director of NTA Enterprises Limited.

Those appointments have now been nullified.
