Actress Stella Damasus has revealed that her role as Nosa in Kemi Adetiba’s new Netflix series To Kill a Monkey is the most challenging of her career.
The 47-year-old made this known in an interview, where she spoke about the emotional depth and complexity required for the role.
When asked about the toughest character she has played, Stella said, “I’m going to say it’s To Kill a Monkey. This role challenged every fibre of my being. The character arc itself is something that I haven’t had the opportunity to do. The fact that it is making people forget that it is a new role — this for me is a hit. Working with Kemi, she will drain everything and make sure you give her what she wants.”
Stella plays Nosa, the wife of Efemini, portrayed by William Benson. The couple started out in poverty, with Nosa showing support and understanding. However, she eventually turned her back on Efemini after he acquired wealth through questionable means, holding him responsible for their marital problems.
The character has sparked intense reactions online, with viewers accusing Nosa of being hypocritical and ungrateful despite having benefitted from Efemini’s criminal rise. Some fans went as far as blaming her for triggering Efemini’s downfall by withdrawing emotional support and later condemning him when things fell apart.
One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “Nosa enjoyed the luxury and kept quiet. When karma caught up with Efe, she suddenly grew a conscience.”
Another viewer added, “That woman drained that man emotionally and then blamed him for everything.”
To Kill a Monkey, which premiered on Netflix on July 18, is Kemi Adetiba’s latest project following the success of King of Boys.
The series stars William Benson as Efemini, alongside Stella Damasus, Bucci Franklin, Sunshine Rosman, Bimbo Akintola, and Chidi Mokeme.
