Actress Rita Edochie has slammed those criticising May Edochie for continuing to bear her estranged husband’s name, insisting that May will remain “Queen May Yul-Edochie” regardless of her marital status.

In a fiery Instagram post on Thursday, the actress addressed the backlash May has been receiving since her split from actor Yul Edochie, warning that the name is not anyone’s to take away.

She wrote:
“Avoid stepping on the toes of someone with God’s grace because that grace will so disgrace you.Ndiala ndiala everywhere. Her name remains Queen May Yul Edochie even after the divorce, because you didn’t give her the name.Iwe wegi oga.Madam see… or better still, go hug transformer.”

Rita continued by asking why people were so bitter toward someone who had done nothing to them.

“Haters sleep well because the name has come to stay.
Why is there so much hate on someone who doesn’t even know you exist?
Owelu onye melu ibeya bikonu?
Pray for your own success and with God, you will definitely shine in your season.
Be happy for who God Almighty has blessed for yours to come too.”

Rita, who has remained vocal in her support for May since her fallout with Yul, also used the post to drop a word of encouragement for her followers.

“Stop the unnecessary anger abeg.
Don’t rush or compare your journey to others. Just like the sun and moon, we all have our own unique time to shine.
Societal pressure may urge you to hurry, but remember that your maker has a perfect plan.
Trying to force your way can lead to burnout or harm.
Instead, focus on steady progress, one step at a time.
Celebrate small wins, learn from setbacks, and keep moving forward.
You are unique, and your moment will arrive.
Remember, life’s timing is divine.
Embrace the journey, trust the process and shine in your season.”

Rita’s post comes as critics online continue to question why May still identifies publicly as “Yul-Edochie,” despite reports that she filed for divorce in 2023 following her husband’s decision to marry actress Judy Austin as his second wife.

Although May has not officially changed her name or commented on the backlash, fans and colleagues like Rita have stood by her, frequently referring to her as “Queen May Yul-Edochie” across social media.

The actor and filmmaker Yul Edochie has also not responded to the controversy surrounding his surname.
