Rev. Amakaeze siblings disown brother’s claims, says Obi Cubana owes no debt to family

Five siblings of Rev. Chidiebere Amakaeze have rejected his allegations against billionaire businessman Obinna Iyiegu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, stating that the businessman has met all obligations on the disputed Wuse 2 property.

In a video released on Thursday, the siblings said Obi Cubana had met all financial obligations on the Wuse 2 property under contention and had supported the family for years.

Speaking on behalf of the family, the immediate younger brother, Nwem Amakaeze, said Obi Cubana “does not owe the Amakaeze family,” noting that only their eldest brother, Chidiebere, had taken a separate position.

Mr Nwem alleged that Rev. Chidiebere misrepresented himself as the only surviving next of kin in 2018 and obtained a sole letter of administration by swearing an affidavit in that regard.

He said the family contested the affidavit at the time.

According to him, the cleric had filed petitions and led online campaigns that created the impression that Obi Cubana was attempting to take over the property.

He said Obi Cubana had indicated willingness to reach a settlement on the property but insisted that all siblings must be included.

“The problem is internal,” Nwem said, adding that he had not been in contact with his elder brother for 10 years.

Their sister, Adaolisa Amakaeze, also said in a separate video that Obi Cubana had acted as caretaker of the property and paid rent accordingly. She said he should not be forced out.

The siblings’ position follows the December 9 execution of an eviction order by court sheriffs at Plot 81, Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse 2, which was formerly Obi Cubana Lounge.

The court handed possession to businessman Collins Onwuzulike.

Rev. Chidiebere had claimed to have sold the property to Mr Onwuzulike for N2bn, a claim now opposed by the rest of the family.
