Remi Tinubu becomes first recipient of Utukpa-Oritse title in Warri Kingdom

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has become the first person to receive the chieftaincy title of Utukpa-Oritse of Warri Kingdom, marking a historic conferment in the kingdom’s history.

The ceremony took place on Thursday during a homecoming reception in Warri, Delta State, celebrating the First Lady’s maternal Itsekiri heritage.

The event was attended by the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other political leaders.

The Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III, said the title recognised the First Lady as a daughter of the land.

“The title conferred on you today reflects God’s unique plan. This is why we brought out all your people to receive you. Indeed, the land and the people recognise when its own come home,” he said.

King Atuwatse also acknowledged the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Tinubu and said the First Lady’s visit symbolised unity and healing for the Niger Delta.

“We are proud of what you have achieved, and we are proud to call you our own. Thank you for being a role model to our daughters,” he added.

Governor Oborevwori described the First Lady as a “global icon” and highlighted her initiatives, including the Renewed Hope Initiative, Free to Shine programme and the distribution of medical kits to midwives in the region.

He also commended her respect for traditional institutions.

The Warri palace noted that the Utukpa-Oritse title, also called Ugbọnẹ́, symbolises heritage, service and royal recognition.

Following the conferment, Mrs. Tinubu was decorated with the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI) title and received a grand reception at the palace grounds.

Dignitaries at the event included Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly Emomotimi Guwor and other political leaders.
