Actress Remi Surutu has said she was the first video vixen in Nigeria, recalling how she featured in early music videos by fuji and juju legends.

In an interview on Oyinmomo, the 56-year-old said she ventured into the role shortly after starting her acting career.

“Not long after I started my acting career, I saw Mr Babs Fashina. He was at Lagos Television (LTV 8) at the time, and he told me they were planning to start shooting music videos in Nigeria,” she said.

“That’s why I always say I’m the first video vixen in Nigeria. I danced in Ebenezer Obey’s ‘Eniyan ti mo feran ju’ and Barrister’s ‘Fuji Garbage.’”

She added that she later appeared in videos for musicians including Ebenezer Obey and Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.

Remi, whose real name is Remilekun Oshodi, is from Ondo State. She began her acting career in 1985 and made her debut in the television series Village Headmaster.

Her rise to fame came with her role in the Yoruba film Surutu, which earned her the nickname she is widely known by today. She has since featured in numerous Nollywood productions.
