Actress Regina Daniels has appealed to Nigerians to stop insulting her mother, Rita Daniels, amid her ongoing marital crisis with her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
In a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Regina said she felt compelled to explain herself following online criticism over her marriage.
“The main essence of this video is to please, stop insulting my mom,” she said.
“I don’t know why everyone is in pain about my life. But you all have a say, so it’s OK. And that’s why I’m explaining. So please, stop insulting my mom.”
The 25-year-old denied marrying Nwoko out of greed, saying her family initially advised her against the union.
“She’s the best thing that ever happened to me. My mom held it down. You all insulted her. But she tried. It’s me. I’m so ashamed to say I fell in love. But I actually really did,” she said.
Regina explained that when her family opposed her decision to marry Nwoko, she became desperate to prove her love.
“I drove out at night. Everyone was looking for me. My brothers were fighting, breaking bottles. I went to the police station and said, arrest me. My family did not want me to marry the love of my life,” she said tearfully.
She added that although she still respects Nwoko, she is determined to fight for her two sons. “I’ll fight for them. I’ll train them. I’ll raise them with or without your support,” she said.
Regina’s video comes weeks after her marital crisis became public when she accused Nwoko of assault.
The lawmaker denied the allegations, claiming her behaviour was influenced by substance abuse.
The couple, who married in 2019, have two children, Munir and Khalifa.
