President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Bola Oyebamiji on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun and urged him to ensure the party’s victory at the August 8, 2026 election.

The message was contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the president’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

Mr Oyebamiji, a former managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority NIWA), emerged as the APC candidate at the party’s primary election held in Osogbo.

Tinubu stated that the task before the candidate was to reclaim Osun for the party in the 2026 gubernatorial election. He also commended the Osun APC for the unity and reconciliation that marked the primary, which was conducted through affirmation.

The president praised the aspirants who stepped down in support of Oyebamiji and urged the candidate to be inclusive by working with party leaders and former aspirants to maintain cohesion.

“The journey to reclaim Osun for the progressives’ fold in the 2026 governorship election has begun.

“I urge all the members and leaders of APC in the state to remain focused, united and resolute.

“Victory is achievable, and together, we will succeed,” Tinubu said.

Oyebamiji was announced as the APC candidate after seven other aspirants agreed to his adoption as a consensus candidate at the primary election.

One of the aspirants, Kunle Rasheed, moved the motion for his adoption, which was seconded by Senator Babajide Omoworare. The chairman of the party’s electoral committee, Edo State governor Monday Okpebholo, thereafter put the decision to a voice vote, which was affirmed by 1,660 delegates from the 30 local government areas in the state.

“By the power vested in me, I declare Oyebamiji as the APC candidate for the August 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun,” Okpebholo said.

In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji thanked the other aspirants for their support and acknowledged the role of party leaders at the state and national levels. He also thanked President Tinubu for his leadership of the party and said he was ready to serve the people of Osun, expressing confidence that the APC would win the 2026 governorship election.
