Fans on social media have reacted to reports that singer Davido’s in-laws may miss their daughter Chioma’s white wedding in Miami, Florida, due to a United States visa ban.
According to blogger Stella Dimoko Korkus, Chioma’s parents and sister reportedly overstayed their US visitor visas after travelling there following the couple’s traditional wedding in Lagos in June 2024. Their stay allegedly exceeded the permitted six-month duration, prompting US immigration authorities to revoke their visas and issue a five-year ban.
As a result, Chioma’s father, who was expected to walk her down the aisle at the white wedding scheduled for Saturday, will allegedly not be able to attend.
The absence of her parents may also affect childcare arrangements as they were reportedly helping take care of the twins the couple welcomed in 2023.
“It is a pity now because they cannot attend their daughter’s wedding in Florida, and there is really no trusted person to care for the twins the way they did,” a source was quoted as saying.
“The terms of the visa were explained to them when they got it, but I guess they may have forgotten. I hope they get to watch the wedding on live camera on August 10th.”
The report has sparked reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning the choice of location for the white wedding.
One Instagram user wrote, “Why didn’t they move the wedding to a destination her parents can attend? I mean, her parents are alive; they should witness their daughter’s wedding na.”
Another user commented, “Your parents are banned, and you still choose to do your wedding in America. That says a lot about the kind of woman you are.”
Others defended the couple, insisting that the traditional wedding was what truly mattered.
“No worry, they have done the most important part, which is the traditional. Wetin dey important be say our OBO loves that girl scatter,” a fan wrote.
“They will work on it. Shey no be OBO again?” another added.
Davido and Chioma held their traditional wedding on June 25, 2024, in Lagos. The event, widely described as the wedding of the year, was attended by dignitaries including the governors of Lagos and Osun States, the Ooni of Ife, billionaire businessmen and several celebrities.
Neither Davido nor Chioma has responded to the report as of the time of this report.
