Reactions trail Ademola Adeleke’s drumming at Osogbo Ramadan lecture

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke

Reactions have followed a video showing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke playing a bandiri at a Ramadan lecture in Osogbo.

The video, shared by his special assistant on digital media Oni Lawrence, showed the governor drumming at the annual Ramadan lecture of the Osogbo branch of the NASFAT on Sunday.

In the clip, Governor Adeleke played the frame drum as people at the event cheered.

The governor also attended a similar lecture organised by the Ede chapter of NASFAT.

He was accompanied by Secretary to the State Government Teslim Igbalaye, members of the State Executive Council and other officials.

Following the circulation of the video, social media users shared different views. Some praised him for participating in the event, while others questioned his priorities.

One user wrote, “There’s nothing he can’t do to entertain you he’s a happy soul.”

Another commented, “Doing everything aside his duty as a governor.”

One added, “This country no go ever good. Dem go say he’s a trustworthy leader for doing this like that.”

Others linked the appearance to the August governorship election in the state.

At the lectures, Islamic clerics also spoke about leadership and the coming election.

Sheikh AbdulRazak Al-Adabiy, who delivered the lecture in Osogbo, told the audience that the governor’s work would speak for him.

“The whole world is seeing how they are victimizing you; the people see how they are harassing you; we all know how they seized your LG money. Despite all the attacks on your government, you are delivering on all fronts,” he said.

In Ede, Sheikh Abdulahi Olorunlomerue said politicians who vow to rig elections while observing Ramadan are not acting in line with Islamic teachings.

“You are fasting. You are going to Umrah. You read the Quran. Yet, you vow to rig the Osun election. You are not a Muslim,” he said.

The governor’s political adviser Muniru Raji also spoke at the event, listing projects he said reflect the administration’s commitment to the Muslim community, including the construction of a mosque at the Government House and a permanent hajj camp.
