King Charles III made changes to the state banquet at Windsor Castle during the visit of President Bola Tinubu and Oluremi Tinubu.
The event held on Wednesday was adjusted to reflect the Ramadan period observed by Muslim guests, including the president.
Non-alcoholic drinks were served at the banquet, including a drink called Crimson Bloom, created for the event.
The drink was inspired by Chapman, a beverage known in Nigeria.
Canapes were also served before the main meal to allow guests break their fast before dinner began.
A prayer room was set up at the castle for guests who needed to pray on arrival.
A royal aide said the changes were made because the visiting president is observing Ramadan and some guests would be breaking their fast while travelling to the venue.
The aide said, “We have made some adjustments. We have provided a space in the castle where they can pray on arrival.”
The menu also avoided meat and featured fish as the main course.
President Tinubu used water for his toast, while other guests who chose to drink alcohol were served wine.
The king acknowledged the timing of the visit in his speech.
“We are most grateful to you for travelling during this holy month,” he said. “Ramadan Mubarak!”
The visit is the first by a Muslim leader to the United Kingdom during Ramadan in many years.
