Prince Oluwatosin Osunsanya of the Tunwase-Oduba royal family has emerged as one of the royal sons frequently mentioned in conversations surrounding the Awujale stool, combining royal lineage with extensive global financial experience.
Prince Osunsanya traces his ancestry to the Fusenguwa ruling house, one of the recognised ruling houses of Ijebuland, and is a direct descendant of Awujale Adesimbo Tunwase. He has spoken consistently about the responsibilities of the Awujale institution and its role in promoting unity, cultural pride and development in Ijebu Land.
At 51, he is widely regarded as an active son of Ijebu Ode. His involvement in Egbe Bobamayegun Okunrin Asiwaju Akile Ijebu and regular participation with his Regberegbe age group during the annual Ojude Oba festival are often cited as evidence of his sustained engagement with Ijebu traditions.
Prince Osunsanya has publicly called for the strengthening of the Awujale institution as a platform for advancing culture, economic growth and governance. “I am committed to advancing the noble aspirations of the Ijebu people, including our long-standing quest for a State of our own,” he said. “The Awujale throne must continue to stand as a beacon of cultural pride, economic strength, and modern governance.”
His educational background spans Nigeria and the United States. He attended Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Ojo, and later earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University. He also obtained a degree in Finance and an MBA from Regis University.
Professionally, Prince Osunsanya has over 25 years of experience in financial technology and capital markets. His career includes investment banking, building brokerage and trading technology platforms, co-creating a global retail investing platform, and leading regulated wealth and capital markets businesses across the United States.
He holds several senior regulatory licences issued by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, including Series 7, Series 24, Series 55, Series 3 and Series 63, covering securities representation, supervision, equity trading and commodities.
Beyond finance, his work extends into technology governance and skills development. He founded Credit Union WealthTech Connect, owns a software development company based in Cape Verde, and established an early artificial intelligence-focused data centre initiative in Africa. He also co-founded Odudu DAO to promote blockchain-based governance frameworks within the ECOWAS region and served as an adviser to Google Digital Skills for Africa.
Prince Osunsanya is also involved in private philanthropic efforts, particularly in supporting orphaned and vulnerable children through funding for education and basic welfare.
He has outlined priorities for Ijebuland that include collaboration with traditional leaders, cultural preservation and economic diversification across agriculture, finance, healthcare and the creative industries. Education, digital skills, youth empowerment and social cohesion feature prominently in his stated vision for the future of Ijebuland.
